Happy New Year and Resolutions

What a great year it's been for the Blackbird Mountain shop online, and I have you all to thank for it! The past few months especially have been so exciting and humbling. I'm really deeply grateful for the chance to branch out, and all the helpful feedback along the way. So it's a very happy close to the year with a lot of potential to explore going into 2018

I really can't express with words how much gratitude I have, and so I have made a bunch of extra little surprise soaps that will be finding their way to those who have helped me so much with the encouragement and support as a token of my heartfelt thanks.

New Year's is also a time many people set resolutions or goals, and I am making one for the Blackbird Mountain Shop:

In 2018, we will transition to 100% Eco-Friendly packaging- using only biodegradable or recycled plastics, and recycled paper products.

Things have always been as environmentally friendly as possible here since the start, but it pains me to think about shrink wrapping and box padding clogging up landfill space. Plastics are something it's easy to take for granted- they are everywhere, keeping our products convenient and safe, but all those little bits and pieces have to go somewhere and most don't recycle. Since the technology is available now to use food safe quality wraps that can biodegrade, it's absolutely the direction I want to go. I have sourced a Biodegradable shirk wrap (!!!!) It's an investment I have wanted to upgrade to for some time, and we are ready!

You will notice new padding inside packages too- blue or green colored bubble wrap that is also 100% biodegradable. The color will vary depending on what company we purchase from. There will also be recycled paper padding, and sometimes air cushions made from recycled plastic. Our packing peanuts look like foam, but are 100% biodegradable made from corn.

The other changes I am working on include labels and the bottles and jars I use.

The transition won't happen all at once, but by the end of 2018, if it isn't recycled/recyclable or biodegradable, we won't use it. That's the resolution, and my pledge to you. I hope it makes you feel as good as it does me.

My other resolution is simply to keep making more soaps and more ceramics!
